In 1988 a friend introduced Gerry Blankenship to Joe Valasek who had a carving business in Newberg, Oregon. Joe was looking to hire someone with artistic ability that could be trained to carve wood signs.

Joe was getting more work than he could handle so, he took a look at Gerry's portfolio and gave him a chance. Gerry jumped on the opportunity as it combined his love of art with the handcrafted skill of carving wood signs. For 28 years Gerry created beautiful signs that compliment the surrounding areas.

In 2017 Northwood Signs was been passed down to Jerome Blankenship, Gerry's son, who's been working alongside his dad since he could hold a paint brush.
